Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Management - Two Foods You Should Avoid

If you have a serious illness that is extremely painful, then a proper pain management plan is required to help reduce your discomfort. This plan should be formed by your physician or by an experienced pain management specialist. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, then this plan should include an appropriate diet with foods you should both eat and avoid. To understand some of the foods you should avoid and why you should not eat them, keep reading.

Milk And Other Dairy Foods

If you have rheumatoid arthritis, then you have an autoimmune disorder where your body attacks its own joints. Unfortunately, your immune system may work overtime to create antibodies against other substances that enter your body that are not considered harmful. Milk is one of these things. Specifically, you may experience a rheumatoid flare up as your body attacks the proteins that are contained in the milk. When this happens, you will experience inflammation and pain.

While it is best to cut milk, cheese, ice cream, and yogurt out of your diet completely, you should look for some good dairy alternatives to add to your diet. Calcium is extremely important in keeping your bones and joints strong, so think about buying some almond milk and trying some soy yogurt. Coconut ice cream is a good alternative too. If you do not like these products, then make sure to eat plenty of broccoli to ingest the calcium you need.

Red Meat

Red meat is often high in fat and calories. These are both things that can increase your weight and added weight can place pressure and stress on the joints. This is extremely bad for your condition. Meats that are high in fat will also allow the body to easily convert this fat into chemicals that cause inflammation in the body. These chemicals are called endotoxins and are the result of the saturated fats in the meat being digested by the bacteria that line your intestine. Meats are high in these types of fats, but they also contain a great deal of protein. Protein is essential in keeping the muscles and other tissues strong across your body that help to support your joints.

To make sure that your body receives more than enough protein, make sure to eat plant-based foods that are rich in the nurient. These types of foods include quinoa, lentils, spirulina, tofu, nuts, and beans.

Rheumatoid arthritis must be treated with a proper pain plan. Make sure the plan includes a great diet that excludes inflammation causing foods like red meat and dairy items.
